WOW Lunchboxes

Plastic usage worldwide has reached staggering levels, with over 380 million tons of plastic produced annually. Approximately 50% of this plastic is for single-use products, such as packaging and disposable items. Shockingly, only about 9% of all plastic waste ever produced has been recycled, while around 12% has been incinerated, and the remaining 79% has accumulated in landfills or the natural environment. The production and incineration of plastic contribute significantly to greenhouse gas emissions, with estimates suggesting that by 2050, plastics could account for 10-13% of the global carbon budget. The pervasive presence of plastic pollution impacts marine life, with millions of tons entering the oceans each year, posing a severe threat to marine ecosystems.

The Eco Warriors promote a WOW (Wipe Out Waste) Wednesday lunchbox. Reducing plastic in lunchboxes can be achieved by using reusable containers made of stainless steel, glass, or silicone instead of single-use plastic bags. Opt for beeswax wraps instead of plastic wrap, and choose cloth napkins over paper ones. Bringing utensils from home and avoiding pre-packaged snacks can further minimize plastic waste, contributing to a more sustainable and eco-friendly lunch routine.

Our friendly Eco Warrior team collect data each week, and the year level with the least amount of rubbish across the term wins a prize.

Together we can make a change!
